The 48-year-old establishment that had been in a state of despair is currently being rehabilitated by the Cameroon Volleyball Federation and it will serve as a site to develop the discipline.
Fecavolley boss, Julien Serge Abouem visited the site last Saturday, June 6, 2020, to evaluate the level of progress. The three-year project began a few months back.
He disclosed that the college will go operational as from next year and shall evolve gradually.
“We have established a schedule so that next year, we will have students here. These students will be in form one because we will be going gradually. As the work is underway, we will have three classes of three French-speaking and three English- speaking Cameroonians.
Work on the structure has moved speedily since December 28. Some of the foundations have already been established while those of some sections of the building will soon be erected.
“The work is progressing well. We have completed the foundation of the A building which covers an area of 1200m square. At the level of the floor, the installation of the posts is 100% complete” Joseph Bowen-chief engineer at the site explained.
“We are in the first phase of this project. We have several buildings like this to realize!namely the administrative building and two gymnasiums not to mention the layout of the play and circulation area as well as green space” he added.
The Johnstone College was handed to fecavolley by the Eglise Presbyterien du Cameroun in October 2019 after an agreement.
The structure upon completion will enable fecavolley to implement it’s medium and long-term strategic action for the development of Volleyball in Cameroon. Practitioners of the discipline will have the opportunity to continue studies while learning the beautiful game simultaneously.
