Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation has written to communication giants MTN Cameroon to instruct them to stop the use of the Indomitable Lions brand for whatever purpose.
This after the FECAFOOT boss observed that the Multi-National communication giants has been using the name of one of the most popular national football team in the world for their advertisements which in effect affects the football house’s relationship with their partners.
In a leaked letter dated, December 28, 2021, the 40-year old firebrand administrator tells the South African company the federation is makes losses of up to 50 Millions FCFA (approximately $100 000) because of the illegal activities of MTN with the image of the five-time African Champions.
“On the February 10, 2020 we (FECAFOOT) wrote to your institution to decry the illegal use of the Indomitable Lions brand name during the African Nations Championship but unfortunately this has not stopped,” Eto’o began before promising legal actions if there’s no change.
FECAFOOT’s move comes after numerous questions on the social media on the relationship between the institution and MTN.
Breach of rights is seemingly a common practice across the board but unfortunately the Telecommunications giants are not getting off the ‘Eto’o hook’.
There are indicators FECAFOOT will be unforgiving this time around and MTN needs to back off or face legal actions.
MTN previously had a relationship with FECAFOOT but that relationship ended close to a decade ago and the former now finds solemn in the presence of rivals – Orange Cameroon.
The days ahead promises to be more dramatic if rights directives are not respected by MTN.
