Former Nigerian track and field athlete, Chief Falilat Ogunkoya (MON) on Thursday was inaugurated as the Chairman of Remo Sports Development Council.
She will chair the 10-man committee saddled with the responsibility of promoting mass participation in active sports for the improvement of the general well-being of Remo people in Ogun State.
Other members of the council include Elder Samson Oyeledun (Technical Director), Kalejaye Adeyemi (Representative of Sagamu Local Government), Olaleye David Osuolale (General Secretary/Divisional Sports Officer), Sopoiki Ponder (School Representative), Sola Oyebanjo (Ikenne Local Government Representative), Oshidero Adekoya (Remo North representative), Chief Olugbenga Abijo (Diaspora representative), Kujore Oluwaseyi (Youth representative), and Jayeoba Olawale (member).
The objectives of the council include:
Using sports as the agent of unity to boost the image of Remo all over the world.
To promote avenues for constant competitions, training, and retraining for the improvement of coaches and athletes’ skills.
To develop a sustainable funding model from the public, private and other sectors.
To harness the economic benefits of sports for the betterment and wealth creation for the people of Remo land.
To synergize the structure of community-based sports by working with local government, schools, youths, traditional rulers, and parents.
To attract and facilitates major sporting events to Remo and exploit hosting benefits for tourism and economic development.
