Fako United’s unbeaten run in the Divisional Football championship continued with a win over Botafogo AFC. Enow Emmanuel’s brace ensured that the team picked up all three points on Wednesday, April 14 at the BGS School Field.
Fako United headed into this encounter after beating Babungo AFC 1-0 in their matchday two encounters and keeping their hopes alive of finishing top of the group.
Botafogo AFC was an improved side against Fako United compared to the disastrous performance they had on matchday two. The team looked a bit compose, and defended in unison though that was short-lived in this encounter.
Both sides were limited to few goal-scoring opportunities in the first half as both goalkeepers almost remained quiet. Enow Emmanuel and Cluivert looked threatening in the opening minutes of the game but like in the last encounter could not make something out of those chances.
But things will be different in the second half in the way Fako United approach the game with a high degree of intensity knowing what is on offer with a victory. At the 51mins Cluivert Mofor’s long-range strike was saved by goalkeeper Rollins as Fako United put on the pressure.
Fako United will take the lead at the 54mins. An excellent cross at the left-wing met the head of Enow Emmanuel for his first goal of the game. This was his second goal of the tournament and he was not yet finished.
Enow almost extended Fako United’s lead but Botafogo’s goalkeeper was equalled to it. He then produced a superb saved to keep out Mofor.
Fako United will then make it 2-0 with Enow Emmanuel scoring his brace at the 81mins. He had been threatening to add to his tally and finally scored after a lapse in judgment from the backline of Botafogo.
Enow Emmanuel has been the talisman for the Fako United side ensuring the team picked up maximum points in the last two games. In their matchday two game against Babungo FA, it was Enow Emmanuel that scored the lone goal for Fako United to pick their three points.
Though silent on matchday one Enow Emmanuel has been productive in the last two games scoring three goals in total. This kind of form has ensured that Fako United is rubbing shoulders with Istanbul FA at the top of the group.
It should be noted that Fako United is second in Group C with 9 points, the same points total and the goal difference with Istanbul FA. These two sides are expected to meet each other for the battle of who remains unbeaten and the leader of the group this coming weekend.
