Al Jazeera has made it two wins from their last two games after beaten Babungo FA on matchday three. Played at the BGS school field this Wednesday, a lone goal from Emmanuel gave Al Jazeera all three points as they continue in their efforts to finish top of their group.
Since fallen to Istanbul FA on matchday One, the team seemed to have recovered from that bleak performance they had. Al Jazeera has gone on to pick up victories against Botafogo AFC and now against Babungo FA, putting on terrific performances in all the games.
Just 2mins into the game Al Jazeera showed that they meant business as Wilfred Elijah came close to scoring with the first shot on goal.
Babungo FA who have been struggling to find their feet in this first round then had their opportunity to take the lead. Bechem Ayuk had a one-on-one chance with the Al Jazeera goalkeeper but flopped his opportunity as goalkeeper Divine saved it.
Awoh Nah who could be voted as Al Jazeera’s player of the last three games had an opportunity at the 26mins but could not capitalize on it. Both sides were evenly matched with a strong defence of the two teams repelling most of the attacks the other throws.
Edu Robert had another glaring chance to score for Al Jazeera. He was one-on-one with goalkeeper Desmond but shoots above the crossbar, to the disappointment of the Al Jazeera coach and fans as both teams went into half time with nothing to show for.
With everything to play for both sides knew they had to start the second half powerfully. It was Al Jazeera who, however, began on the offensive and took the lead just two minutes into the second half. Edu Robert scored what will be the only goal of the game at the 47mins of play.
Banungo pushed for an equalizer but their efforts did not trouble goalkeeper Divine who had limited saves to make in the encounter due to a strong defence he had from his defenders. Babungo will, however, lose their first-choice goalkeeper due to injury as Eki Cyril was brought in to finish the game after Desmond went off injured.
At 3mins of additional time substitute Tumfor Clovis, almost extended Al Jazeera’s lead but his effort hit the woodwork and could not capitalize on the rebound as the game ended 1-0 for Al Jazeera.
This victory for Al Jazeera places them third in Pool C with 6 points after picking two wins and a loss in their three games so far. The team is three points behind joint leaders Istanbul FA and Fako United.
