Fako United begun their Divisional League campaign with a victory over rivals Babungo FC. A lone goal from Enow Emmanuel at the 38mins saw Fako United beat Babungo 1-0 in a game played this Wednesday, April 7 at the BGS School Field.
Babungo began the game on the offensive with the first chances fallen to the side as they look to get the first goal of the game.
The first opportunity for Fako United came at the 7mins of the game. Bechem Ayuk had the first shot for Fako United but his shot went just wide, as the side slowly got a foothold of the game.
Aji Armstrong, Bwen Giovanni and Awoh Clinton proved excellent in the opening minutes of Babungo. Clinton on his part provided most of the attack from the left wing for Babungo. His efforts, however, were not converted by his colleagues as all their efforts went wide of the post.
Babungo will, however, leave to regret not taking their chances as Fako United finally scored the first goal of the game. Enow Emmanuel scored a beautiful strike at the 38mins after goalkeeper Desmond has saved Kulu Emil’s effort.
In a tactical change, Coach Etoundi Owona brought in Mbifanyi Bertrand in place of Ekeke Richard. Bertrand showed glimpses before the half time mark but the teams headed into the break with Fako United leading Babungo 1-0.
In another tactical change, Ikome William was brought in for Babungo in place of Bwen Giovanni as the side looked for an equalizing goal.
It was Fako United who began the second half on the front. Joe Libani had an excellent opportunity to extend Fako United’s lead but flopped his one-on-one opportunity with the Babungo goalkeeper.
Babungo FC was then reduced to 10 players as their goalkeeper was shown a red card. Ayenembong Desmond was guilty of a rough play as he was shown his second yellow of the game which led to a red card. It was a tough second half for Desmond who was excellent in the first half.
Despite Babungo’s intense pressure they couldn’t get that much-needed equalizer as the game ended 1-0 in favour of Fako United.
It should be noted both Fako United and Babungo are in Pool C of the championship. They are alongside Istanbul Football Academy, Aljazeera Sports Academy of Muyuka, and Botafogo AFC. The victory for Fako United gifts then three points in their group as they look to win the group and ascend into the Regional Championship.
