56-year old Charafeddine Amara has resigned from his post of President of the Algerian Football Federation, after the Desert Foxes failed to book a ticket for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, in a 1-2 defeat against the Indomitable lions of Cameroon on Tuesday evening at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida.

Charafeddine Amara was talking in a press conference this Thursday and officially announced his withdrawal, alongside other federal bureau members. Amara has advised 46-year old Algerian Coach Djamel Belmadi to continue work with his team. The latter had officially announced his resignation as the head coach of the Desert Foxes immediately after the embarrassing Algerian debacle.

Addressing pressers in the conference room of the Algerian FA building, Amara remorsefully said ;

“Let’s be reasonable, we have asked for a reply against Cameroon . I am not just talking because it is part of my job. I have done all what is legal”.

” I am receiving numerous phone calls at this moment because some unknown individuals with bad intentions have put my number on social media. So we have opted for change. ” He added

Mohamed Maouch in his capacity of first deputy will represent Charafeddine in his position ,while awaiting for an electoral general assembly later which will result in the appointment of a new FAF President.

“I will like to thank the bureau for their good work on our mandate. I equally thank the selections, as they were very productive. I accept responsibility for all what happened, but the most important decision is that we need change”.Amara said

Toko Ekambi’s last winner goal sent Cameroon to Qatar, and some Algerian fans were left questioning the decisions of Gambian referee Papa Gassama. The country has officially tabled a complaint to FIFA and they await a reply.

For the records, No FAF head has completed his term since 1992.
