2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner Fabrice Ondoa was handed his first start for Latvian club FK Auda with both sides earning one points each. It was also a first clean sheet for the Cameroonian who last year was without a club.
The Cameroonian earned the first start this Sunday, March 20 during match day two of the Latvian League as FK Auda drew 0-0 away to Super Nova.
The draw means FK Auda counts 4 points after picking a win in their first encounter. The next meeting will be crucial with Ondoa looking to maintain his name on the starting list after an outstanding outing
In March this year Ondoa signed a two year contract with FK Auda, putting an end to the long spells at the sidelines. This move has been seen by many sports analysts in the country as a timely one for the player and kick442.com had reported that it may just be a rebirth for the player’s career.
The maiden start for the 26-year-old comes after he was not selected by Head coach Rigobert Song ahead of Cameroon’s clash with Algeria for the playoffs of the FIFA Qatar World Cup. The goalkeeper had earlier been amongst the 38 pre-selected players for the encounter.
With more game time for club, it may not be long before Ondoa is in the sticks again for his national team. Since winning the 2017 AFCON, Fabrice Ondoa has rarely been in goal for the national team with cousin Andre Onana having almost cemented the number one spot. Only time will tell before we see Ondoa donning the green red yellow jersey and will his performance so far, it won’t be long.
