The 2019 African cup of nations in Egypt is just one month away. Indomitable lions head coach, Clarence Seedorf recently made known his 34 players shortlisted for the Pre_AFCON training camp to hold in the coming days. Amongst the 34, was Cotonsport’s shot stopper Simon Medjo Loti Omossola. The young goalkeeper was instrumental in Cotonsport’s title winning campaign last term, though he has largely been second best for the cotonites this season, behind Togolese international, Bassa Djeri.
Omossala starred in Cotonsport’s 1#0 win over Feutcheu FC in a delayed game of the playoffs in the league one championship, played on Monday May 13, 2019, at the Yaounde Annex 1 stadium. After the game, the goalkeeper spoke exclusively with Kick442.com, on his first called up to the Cameroon’s senior national team. He said “I’m very happy to have been called up into the national team. It’s a lot of joy to my teammates and me, because if I have been called up to the national team, it is because of them. They helped and encouraged me, and always assist me in the work, alongside the coaches”.
The goalkeeping compartment of the Cameroon national is blessed with talents like the 2017 AFCON winner Fabrice Ondoa, UEFA champion’s league semifinalist, Andre Onana and the veteran Idriss Carlos Kameni. But Simon Loti Omossola, who has played with virtually all the junior Categories of the national, described his selection into Seedorf’s provisional squad, as a continuation of the work he has being doing with the U20, the U23 and the intermediate lions. Talking about his chances of making it into the final list of 23 players for the AFCON, Omossola proceeded “I need to work very hard to have a place in the team, because if I should be in the final list for the AFCON, then I need to work very hard”.
Omossola and his club, Cotonsport of Garoua, are currently in Yaounde, where they are taking part in the playoffs, in the Cameroon league one championship. The goalkeeper is hoping to help his team secure their 16th league title.
