The Under-17 girls team of Sao Tome and Principe have failed to return home after their six nil world cup qualifiers defeat in Yaounde last Saturday.
The central Africans have not things their way since after Saturday’s game.
Unlike many African nations Coach Aurieliano Mendes Semedo and the girls traveled to Cameroon for nearly impossibleqqualification mission after suffering a four nil home defeat.
Their trip to Cameroon largely due to the the love of the game is now turning sour. They were initially scheduled to return home on Sunday, unfortunately they had their flight canceled largely because of the health threats presented by the CoronaVirus disease.
The team was initially scheduled to make a transit in Malabo Equatorial Guinea last Sunday but the closure of the Guinean borders led to the cancelation of the team’s flight.
The Cameroonian borders have also been closed for foreigners thus making it difficult to have Airbuses coming from other countries or leaving for Sao Tome.
The players have switched to another hotel in Yaounde while waiting for its officials to secure a flight for their return home.
Sources told kick442.com earlier this week that Sao Tome officials who were working tooth and nails to secure an Airbus to take them home on Wednesday didn’t get a bus.
It is on the concerned football institutions including CAF and FIFA to make efforts to see that these minors return home to their families.
