The absence of runners up in FIFA and CAF Awards ceremony is a usual occurrence in modern-day football though Mahrez can be excused due to his club commitments.
Mahrez‘s won the award and ended a 19-year absence on the podium for a North African and became the first player from Algeria to win the Award since Rabah Madjer in 1987.
The nominees for the upcoming award start arriving Egypt this weekend.
