Bayelsa Queens forward, Charity Reuben said that Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Board should solicit for CAF Women Football Competition at Confederation of African Football (CAF) level. She is of the view that the competition will improve the standard of women football in Africa and give more exposure to players who intend to travel outside the country in search of greener pastures.
“NWFL board should carry players along in decision making. I have played in Europe and know the importance of playing continental football like the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The league board should help us push for CAF Women’s Champions League which will help players gain more continental exposure as well as improve the competitive nature of women football in Africa for it to meet up with what is obtainable else where in Europe.” She told kick442.
Bayelsa Queens will kick off its 2019-2020 NWFL Premiership season at Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenegoa where they will host Lagos based side, Dream Stars Ladies. Charity Reuben is optimistic and confident that Bayelsa Queens will come out victorious to start their season on a bright note.
“Our expectation is to win our first match against Dream Stars Ladies tomorrow and we know that we are going to win the game. We know that Dream Stars Ladies parades young and energetic players, hence we will not under rate them or give them any chance of causing an upset.”
The 2019-2020 NWFL season will be an abridged format with 16 clubs divided into 2 groups of 8 clubs each. Charity Reuben is not happy with this format. “I don’t like the abridged league format. I prefer a round robin league which will help the competitive nature of the league and give the coach chance to field as many players as possible during the course of the season. Since that is the decision of the league board due to some circumstances beyond them, we have to follow the format for now.” The former Rivers Angels and Ibom Angels player concluded.
Charity Chetachukwu Reuben played for BIIK Kazygurt last season. She previously represented Nigeria at women’s national under-20 level. For the 2017 Nigeria Women Premier League, she scored eight (8) goals, which was the most by any player in the league.
In February 2018, Charity Reuben was nominated by the
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for 2017 Women Player of the Year. In May 2018, she was nominated as the best player in the 2017 Nigeria Women Premier League at Nigeria Pitch Awards, but lost the award to Rasheedat Ajibade. Charity Reuben played in the Kazakhstan women’s league for BIIK Kazygurt football club during 2019 season before joining Bayelsa Queens at the end of her contract with the Kazakhstan club.
