Coach Osahon Emmanuel has said, his target for next season is to either win the league or the Aiteo Cup.
The founder and coach of Lagos based Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, FC Robo Queens declared to kick442.com this week. The gaffer told the online portal he targets to either win the league or the Aiteo Cup in the upcoming season.
“In our group (Group B), we will try our best to make it to the Super 4. We are used to playing big clubs, we will make it out. Next season,
we must try and win something, either the Aiteo Cup or the League.” He disclosed to kick442.com
Coach Osahon Emmanuel also shed light into what motivated him to establish FC Robo Queens as well as how it feels to narrowly miss out of Super 4 last season.
“Though it’s spiritual, I have passion for women doing sports. Combining responsibilities as club founder and coach is very, very tasking. Last season, we narrowly missed out of Super 4 which was a sad experience for the team, but we need to try more come next season.”
Last season, clubs in the women top flight league in Nigeria played six (6) matches in an abridged format before the top four (4) group leaders moved to Lagos for Super 4 tournament. The upcoming season will be another abridged season albeit with two (2) groups of eight (8) clubs each playing 7 home and 7 away matches. Coach Osahon said that given the current situation in the league and country, the abridged league is the best.
“Judging by the situation of the country for now,(road, security, and other unspeakable devices going on), the abridged league is the best. Since there’s no continental tournament yet, Super 4 is the alternative.”
Coach Osahon Emmanuel who recently emerged as the Vice Chairman of NWFL Club Owners Association also envisaged that the rebranding of the league is the best and advice league board to work towards ensuring that the league is played on good pitch.
“As the Vice Chairman of NWFL Club Owners Association, I will support the Board by taking female football to the next level. The recent rebranding of the league is best thing that has ever happened to female football. My advice for the league board is to have a secret referee, team and fan’s accessor. For this will enable them to access the officiating, team behavior and the fan’s attitude during and after the game.
Second, the league must be played on a good pitch, a ground that is football friendly.
Third, the accessor should make sure there’s a stand by ambulance or vehicle in case, just in case there is need…”
FC Robo Queens will travel to Port Harcourt where they will face defending Champions, Rivers Angels in their league opener on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
