Newly appointed Angola interim Pedro Goncalves, would begin his journey as the man at the helm against the Gambia and their assistant coach Mattar M’boge who turns out to be a close friend.
Coach Pedro Goncalves told kick442.com that: “I spoke with Mattar, do you believe Mattar is the Gambia assistant? I met him few months ago in South Africa and we created a really nice relationship. It is nice to have the first match against him. It is a big challenge and I hope we put everything to have a good team. After the AFCON here in Angola lot’s of things happened but it’s a new road and an open mind – so, let’s focus on our ambitions to qualify for Qatar”.
Talk about twin scenarios. These two hold more than a post of responsibility; Pedro Goncalves is the Angola national team interim boss and Under 17 coach while Mattar M’boge is an assistant coach of the Gambia national side and lead coach of Gambia Under 20.
The two men might have a handshake and share a bottle of water before and after the game but, it is certain that in the course of the 90 minutes of the two legs, bad blood, emotions, ‘petit’ spats and rivalries would flow between these two.
