Cameroon senior women’s national football team will face the Spanish women’s national team in an international friendly early next year.
According to Kick442.Com findings, the Indomitable Lionesses will clash with the Spanish in April 2022 with the match expected to be held in the Spanish Catalan city of Barcelona or in the capital, Madrid.
The duel is expected to be part of the Indomitable Lionesses preparations for the final phase of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Morocco in July next year.
The game will come a month after Cameroon’s clash with West Africans, The Gambia in the last phase of the AWCON 2022 qualifiers. A game that will fully determine the future of the international friendly.
The friendly will be the first meeting between Cameroon and Spain since 2019 when the Indomitable Lionesses lost to Spain 4 nil in the build up to the 2019 women’s world cup in France.
The game is expected to be a real test ground for Captain Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and mates ahead of the 2022 AWCON, the Lionesses having had unconvincing performances in recent times including poor displays at the invitational Aisha Buhari Tournament in Nigeria earlier this year.
This, as the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon led by Coach Gabrielle Zabo look forward to bagging their maiden title in the continent’s most prestigious women’s football competition after finishing as runners up in four occasions, most recently in 2016 when Cameroon hosted the competition.
Cameroon finished third during the last edition of the AWCON 2018 in Ghana.
The 12th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament will run in Morocco from July 2 to July 23, 2022.
A total of 12 nations will be competing in what will be the first edition of the extended version of the tournament.
