It is always a tough ask stepping in the shoe’s of a queue of successful coach’s, but Angolan U-20 coach, Pedro Goncalves has tipped his former colleague and new Wydad Athletic club coach, Zoran Manojlovic to continue with utter success at already the most successful club in Morocco.
The pair of Zoran and Pedro crossed paths when they were in Primmeiro de Agosto, making the team almost picture perfect, so, when coach Pedro spoke to kick442.com he was certain of the maintenance of success at Wydad: “I worked In primiero de Agosto a couple of times with him. When Zoran Maki went to the club I was finishing at Primiero de Agosto so we bypassed a couple of times“. The man who carries the Angolan U-20 to Brazil just in over few months from now spoke of a Zoran Manojlovic with a superb personality: “yeah, he is a cool guy, he is reserved like most people who come from Serbia, he is a cool and nice guy. I think he would have success in Morocco”.
The 54-year-old Serb masterminded the great run of Primeiro de Agosto to the coveted Champions league semifinals in 2018 but it becomes a whole new different pressure going into a Wydad side, 20 times king’s of Morocco.
Pedro Goncalves spoke of some rare information about his former colleague and how they met;
“About Zoran; Zoran ‘Maki’ is the name he is recognized as, in Angola. It is more or less the same scenario. He is signed by Wydad, one of the biggest club’s in Morocco and in 2018 he was signed by Primeiro de Agosto, a big club in Angola, so, it’s more or less the same scenario because when he signed for premeiro de Agosto, he took over a champion coach, and right now he is in Wydad, a champion club – so he’s taking over another Champion coach”.
“It is the same scenario – but the time in 2018 in Angola was half season and a transitional one. Zoran Maki did a good job. He was champion. He was contested but he crossed that path and finished the season – at that time made a tree for primeiro de Agosto because, his predecessor Dragan Jovic finished twice as the champion, Zoran Maki made the third and right now Dragan returned and took the fourth championship in a spin”.
“I believe he is going to have a good time at Wydad”.
Talking about one of the most important virtues a coach is supposed to have (maturity), Pedro Goncalves is certain Zoran has it in abundance “the coach is a mature coach. I think at that time in Premiero de Agosto he proved with his performance when he was the coach. So, I believe he would do well going to the best club in Morocco with all the facilities – and it is a club that is usually in the top of the Moroccan league – I believe he would absolutely keep the success for Wydad”.
Wydad and Zoran put pen to papers on the 17 of July, 2019 after Faouzi Benzarti parted ways with Wydad in grand style, leaving them with a trophy gift.
