Ex-Indomitable Lions of Cameroon player and Arsenal great Laureano Bisan-Etame Mayer better known as Lauren Etame Mayer is to construct five boreholes in five villages in Cameroon.
“The former member of the English club Arsenal learns about five villages in Cameroon that lack water to launch operations,” the player said in a Facebook post.
At a time when the country suffers from frequent water shortages and even none in existence in some communities, such a gesture from the player is applaudable.
As an Arsenal great, Lauren won several titles with the club and is known as one of the “invincible” after the club went the whole 2003/2004 season without losing any game.
For the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Etame Mayer was capped 30 times at both the Cameroon under 23 levels and the senior national team. With the latter, he played 24 times, winning the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon.
Etame also won the Olympic Gold Medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and retired at the international at just 25 years-old.
