The Nigerian forward scored her fourth goal of the season for Saint Etienne on Saturday but the goal wasn’t enough as her French D1 Arkema side, Saint Etienne crashed out of the Coupe de France after a 2-7 defeat to Montpellier.
Montpellier raced to a three-goal lead thanks to goals from Faustine Robert and Dominika Skorvankova’s brace.
Esther Okoronkwo and Laury Jesus reduced Saint Etienne’s deficit but more goals from Nerilia Mondesir, Lena Petermann (brace) and Esther Mbakem-Niaro condemn Esther Okoronkwo and her French side to their first defeat in its first game of 2022.
Saint Etienne’s focus will now shift to the French D1 Arkema when it will face Montpellier again with the aim of avoiding another big defeat on January 15.
