Cameroonian forward Eric Choupo Moting provided the assist for Bayern’s only goal scored by Robert Lewandowski in their 1-3 shock defeat to SV Mainz on Saturday.
Mainz surprised the recently crowned champions as they ran out 3-1 winners in a game they wasted more than they converted.
The host needed just 18 minutes into the contest through Jonathan Burkardt before French man Moussa Niakhaté added a second nine minutes later.
Bayern looking second best on a rare occasion this season were in a difficult situation needing inspiration from their main man Robert Lewandowski for a comeback.
Robert combined with Choupo to pull one back in the 33rd minute 12 minutes from the break.
Bayern started the second segment well, as Robert was superbly denied by Hack in the six-yard box.
Hopes of a comeback in the second segment were squashed in the 57th minute when Leandro Barreiro scored the third and killer goal for the host from the counter to make it 3-1.
They were a number of chances for Mainz again, with Onisiwo striking the bar and Burkhardt also going close but the fourth goal eluded them.
There wasn’t another goal till the end of the game, thus handing Mainz a rare win over the new Bundesliga champions.
Choupo’s latest assist is his second in 18 Bundesliga games, he also counts four goals.
