Super Eagles player, Wilfred Ndidi and his club Leicester City equalled Manchester United English Premier League record of beating Ipswich 9-0 by defeating Southampton 9-0 on Friday, October 25, 2019.
Wilfred Ndidi played full 90 minutes for Leicester City as he helped his club to a resounding victory at Saint Mary’s.
The result sees Brendan Rodgers’ side move into second place, leapfrogging Manchester City and moving five points behind leaders Liverpool.
The result, which matches Manchester United’s 9-0 win against Ipswich in 1995, was confirmed thanks to Jamie Vardy’s stoppage-time penalty.
Both Vardy and Ayoze Perez scored hat-tricks, with the visitors’ task aided by Ryan Bertrand’s red card for a reckless challenge on Perez in the build-up to Ben Chilwell’s opener.
That opened the floodgates for Leicester just two days before the first anniversary of the helicopter crash in which the club’s former chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four other people died.
Vardy’s hat-trick sees him become the Premier League’s top scorer, moving above Sergio Aguero and Tammy Abraham.
Youri Tielmans also scored his third goal of the campaign and James Maddison’s added a superb free-kick on a miserable evening for Southampton, who drop into the bottom three.
