Enyimba FC suffered their second away defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup as ES Setif of Algeria handed the two-time African Champions another away loss on Sunday with a 3-0 win in favour of the host.
Amir Karaoui gave the Algerian the lead in the 31st minute off Ahmed Kendouci’s assist.
Mohamed Amoura doubled the lead for the host in the additional minutes of the first half.
Enyimba’s gaffer, Fatai Osho brought in Cyril Olisema and Tosin Omoyele in the second half to replace Samson Bossa Obi and Victor Mbaoma respectively, but the substitution could not change the tide of the game.
In the 65th minute, Akram Djahnit scored ES Setif’s third goal from the penalty spot.
The result meant that ES Setif of Algeria secured their first win in Group A while Enyimba FC dropped to the second position after Orlando Pirates of South Africa’s 3-0 win over Al-Ahly Benghazi of Libya.
Enyimba FC occupied the second position in Group A with six points from four games, two points ahead of Al-Ahly Benghazi and ES Setif, and two points behind group leaders, Orlando Pirates.
Enyimba’s next game in the CAF Confederations Cup is away to Al-Ahly Benghazi in Libya on April 21, 2021.
