Enyimba International of Aba continued their great run in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season as they defeated league giant Plateau United on Saturday at the Aba Township Stadium.
Tosin Omoyele scored a brace in the first phase of the game but the Plateau United scored a goal in the other phase to end the game at 2-1.
The former Plateau United player, Omoyele scored his first in the 27th minutes to take the pressure off the home side who were second best in the early stages.
The number 11 rose highest to nod in Anayo Iwuala’s cross to give his side the lead.
Three minutes later the duo combined well again after good string of passes by the People’s Elephant before the striker put the ball neatly at the right hand corner of the post to make it two for Enyimba.
The Aba Boys went into the tunnel with the two goal lead even though there were chances to increase the lead.
The Jos Boys came out stronger looking for a breakthrough, but it was the home side who had another goal-threatening chance in the 62nd minutes.
A superb attacking move by the the team in blue saw Austin Oladapo play the ball into the channel for Sadiq Abubakar who squared for a very free Anayo Iwuala, but the winger’s effort came off the base of the post.
After much push, Effiong Moses gave Plateau United a lifeline scoring in the 74th minutes. He headed in the ball into the net from a free kick.
It was however not enough to see the away side get anything out of the game.
