Former Super Eagles forward and Atlanta 1996 Gold medalist, Emmanuel Amunike has said that Super Eagles of Nigeria can win the first FIFA World Cup for Africa, www.kick442.com can report.
The former Golden Eaglet gaffer disclosed this during an interview on 91.3 Lagos Talks FM.
“If there was to be any African country that will win the first FIFA World Cup, it has to be Nigeria. We have what it takes because we have players, but we have to educate ourselves. Nigerians are lions that believe in their strength.” He told Charles Anazodo.
Amunike scored the winning goal for Nigeria in the final of the 1994 African Cup of Nations, AFCON in Tunisia against Zambia as well as the winning goal for Nigeria against Argentina in the final of the Atlanta Olympics which clinched Africa’s first football gold medal.
The former FC Barcelona player as coach guided Nigeria to win the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Nigeria has not gone past the Round of 16 stages at the FIFA World Cup after six appearances with Round of 16 finishes on three occasions in USA 1994, France 1998, and Brazil 2014.
