AS Matelots of Douala have picked up their first point of the 2020-2021 Cameroon Elite Two championship season.
The host displayed their readiness for the season with a solid display at home to a very good Renaissance of Ngoumou side under the guidance of coach Anicet Koung.
A brace from Freddy Lionel Atemengue did the job for Renaissance of Ngoumou who had a deficit start after conceding through Mboua Boubakan.
Both sides endured a struggle start to the cagey encounter failing to make both keepers work for close to half an hour.
Though in difficulties AS Matelots had a pair of good chances on the break and finally had the fruits of their efforts in the 31st minute of the game when forward Mboua Boubakan opened scores for his side and the league’s first goal of the season.
Though with some good chances for the host, coach Nyonssec Christian organized his Matelots side perfectly till the break with the one-nil advantage.
Upon resumption for the second segment, Renaissance of Ngoumou up their attacking efforts.
24 minutes into the second segment of the encounter Renaissance of Ngoumou finally had the reward for their efforts all afternoon with a beautiful goal from Freddy Lionel Atemengue.
Unfortunately for Matelots FC fans their side conceded again through Lionel Atemengue for the first brace of the season.
There wasn’t another another goal from both sides and the game ended on a 2-1 score.
Both sides will return home to continue preparations for their match-day two responsibilities with Renaissance FC proud about their strong start.
The rest of the match-day fixtures will be played mid-week.
