Astres of Douala’s center back Axel Romuald Ndzana, has won the David Mayebi player of the month of June 2022.
The 34_year_old defender has scored eight league goals for the Brazilians of Bepanda this season, and put up a formidable display in the month of June to help his side finished top of Pool A.
Ndzana received his player of the month award at half time during their classification game against Canon of Yaounde in Garoua on Sunday afternoon.
The honor which was handed to him by former indomitable lions goalkeeper Souleymanou Hamidou, a trophy and an envelope amounting to the sum of 100,000FCFA.
“I’m very happy to enter history as the top scoring defender in the Cameroon league and winning this award,” Ndzana told the press.
“We gave our best, but it feels very bad to finish the season this way. But I think it’s been long that Astres of Douala has not finished in the top four. We could have done better this season but we have to quickly turn our focus on the Cameroon cup that starts next weekend,” Ndzana added.
The Player of the month award which is sponsored by the National Syndicate of Cameroon professional Footballers known by its French acronym as SYNAFOC, is named after one of its founding fathers, David Mayebi.
Axel Ndzana is the fourth player to win it this season, after Tegemo Emmanuel, Marou Souaibou and Bertrand Mani had won in Marc, April, and May respectively. Ndzana also makes history as the first defender to win the award.
