The Head Coach of the defending champions of Cameroon division one football championship, PWD Bamenda, David Pagou has expressed his satisfaction following his outfit’s 1 nil win against Stade Renard of Melong.
Speaking to the official Communication Unit of PWD Bamenda after the Abakwa Boys’ match day 10 triumph at the Yong Sport Arena in Mille 6 on Sunday May 2, 2021, the tactician expressed his joy and readiness to ensure the team continue its good run in the championship.
“Stade Renard (Of Melong) is not an easy team as we saw today. They have a lot of individual talents as well as a brilliant collective strength. That’s why we worked hard to stop them from equalizing which was our objective to take all three points. It was out of question to allow them leave here with a point.” David Pagou stated.
“We are on a good footing and I think the guys continue progressing.”
Quizzed on his plans ahead of the team’s last match of the first phase against Union of Douala next Sunday, the Tutor said “We will recharge our system after about 5 days of rest and face the game with lots of concentration.”
The tactician equally gave updates on injury issues in the squad, citing a possible return of one of the outfit’s most reliable figure, Christian Banock in the next game to face Union. David Pagou clarified uncertainty surrounding Banock’s absence from Sunday’s game versus Stade Renard, blaming that on his inability to take part in the team’s pre-match training last Wednesday following an injury picked during match day 9 against Eding Sport of the Lekie.
PWD Bamenda humbled visiting Stade Renard 1 nil in Bamenda thanks to a Mohamed Aboubakar first half goal which maintains the team’s invincibility status in the ongoing campaign.
The win moved the home side to 3rd in the temporal classification table of pool B of the championship with 17 points. They tally a point lesser than joint leaders Fovu Club of Baham who overpowered fellow toppers AS Fortuna 4-2 on Sunday to take the leadership position of the log.
A win for PWD Bamenda in their next outing against Union of Douala and a defeat or draw for the toppers will see the defending champions finishing the first phase of the championship on top position.
