The homologation and disciplinary commission of the Cameroon football Federation, has hit New Stars of Douala with sanctions following the club’s failure to show up for one of their league games this season.
New Stars and Union de Mouvement sportif of Loum were to clash in match day nine game in Bafoussam on April 20, but New Stars did not answer present despite haven attended the pre_match technical meeting.
In a recent decision made public by the homologation and disciplinary commission, New Stars of Douala has been charged to pay a fine worth 500,000FCFA.
The team has also lost the game by forfeiture, meaning UMS walks away with all three points of that game, with a plus three goals.
Apart from losing the game by forfeiture, New Stars of Douala has also been deducted three points from the general classification table in pool B of the championship.
What transpired
On April 20, New Stars players refused to play their game against UMS, as they reportedly were on strike due to unpaid wages and bonuses.
The President of the club Faustin Domkeu, eventually refused to negotiate with the said players, and is quoted to have said;
“ I will not negotiate. I have my share of responsibility, but it is inconceivable that 8 players block everything including the material. ”
Though New Stars finally played their last two round one games against YAFOOT and Eding Sport, possibilities of having the game against UMS rescheduled, were definitely slim.
The recent decision means New Stars now has six points on the league’s table and are bottom of Pool B. With an additional three points and three goals, UMS moves up to the fifth position, with 16 points.
New Stars has 10 days to launch an appeal. New Stars is the second team to have been metted such sanctions this season, after Tonnerre Kalara club was punished for not showing up during their game against Union of Douala.
