The president of the Cameroon football Federation Samuel Eto’o Fils, has announced that Elite one clubs will be given 48 millions FCFA each as subsidies, during the 2022_2023 football season.
The FECAFOOT boss was speaking during a meeting on Thursday at the FA head office in Yaoundé, with the heads of the various clubs in Cameroon, grouped under the association of elite clubs of Cameroon, ACEC.
Eto’o met with the club officials to take stock of the just ended campaign, and lay the ground works for the up coming season.
In the just ended season where cotonsport emerged champions, elite one clubs received about 23 millions FCFA as subventions, while the prize money was the sum of 50 millions FCFA. But now Eto’o has announced that clubs will be given a whopping sum of 48 millions FCFA each as subventions, and a further 5 millions FCFA, which will help the clubs in the creation of youth teams (U15 and U17).
The prize money has skyrock from 50 millions FCFA to 100 millions FCFA, with Eto’o explanation that the reasons for adding another 50 millions to the initial amount, is to permit the team that emerges champions, to better prepare for the CAF champions league.
It was also revealed during the meeting that the remaining subsidies owed the clubs for the just ended season, will be paid to the clubs as soon as possible.
The league awards night will also return, during which the best talents in the league will be rewarded for their outstanding performances in the course of the season.
The start of the championship is scheduled for October 15, 2022 and ends in April 2023, though the league will observe a break between November 7, and will only resume January 7, 2023, that is after the world cup. A world cup which Eto’o says all MTN Elite One club presidents, will be part of Cameroon’s delegation to Qatar.
“The President of FECAFOOT has kept his word, he had promised that he will double the envelope of the subsidy, he has done so. We start from 23 million to 48 million FCFA,” the president of the Association of Elite Clubs of Cameroon, Pascal Abunde told the press after Thursday’s meeting.
The Champions Trophy which will pit the champion against the winner of the cup will take place on October 12, 2022
