UMS of Loum and Astre of Douala have played a frustrating 1-1 draw in match-day 7 of the Cameroon Elite One championship, a frustrating result for both sides.
Both clubs came into the Littoral deeby at the Bepanda Omnisport Annex I Stadium hoping for a win to accelerate the ascension up the table.
Deugoue who scored last time out led the lines for the host and was expected to deliver the goals.
The host got off the mark in the 32nd of the game when goal poacher Christian Deugoue beat the UMS shot stopper with a fine effort.
Despite having another chance before the break, Astre took the one-nil advantage to the break.
Upon resumption for the second segment, UMS looked more organized and daring than in the first.
The Loum boys were more purposeful in possession and knocked on the defensive door of Astre on a number of occasions.
7 minutes into the segment segment, an unusual source in center-half Bertin Ngemaleu took a brilliant free-kick on the edge of the box and directed it into the Astre net.
Though the goal opened the game, there wasn’t to be another goal, thus making both sides to settle on a 1-1 draw at full-time.
The result means Astres keep the 5th spot on the log with 8 points from 7 games while UMS climb up to the 8th spot with 5 points and three games in hand.
Astre and UMS are away to Cotonsport and TKC respectively in match-day 8 of the Championship.
Christian Deugoue is UMS’ joint best scorer with Leon Boyomo so far as both players count two goals.
