Fauve Azur Elite have continued their resurgence in Cameroon’s second-tier after a three – nil mauling of struggling AS Matelots.
Fauve Azure started real quick and sharp and it wasn’t long before they took the lead courtesy of a converted penalty from Jean Claude Kameni, only after twenty minutes gone into the first half.
It then was turning out to be a long day for Matelots as predicted by football lovers. Just three minutes after Jean Claude’s penalty was converted, Saidou Ibrahim scored a wonderful long range strike, right up there for a goal of the season contender. Ibrahim’s goal bamboozled goalkeeper Raool Patrick of Matelots, and the future there on was looking ‘gray’ for the men of Kouahaya Joseph.
AS Matelots created a few half-chances of their own, the main one in the first half being Esuma Bright’s lack of composure to beat a committed goalkeeper Kologni Kologni, who was out of his trajectory in the 42 minute.
AS Matelots had a relatively better start of the second half than the first; Alex Kouam’s cross into the box was picked up by goalkeeper Kologni Kologni just as Bright Esuma was ready to pounce.
Despite Matelots’ Short stint of sheer persistence, Fauve Azure got their third of the afternoon courtesy of a razor sharp counter that was eventually finished by Jean Haman with just 20 minutes left on the clock.
The goal tally for Fauve Azure could have been increased by Gilbert Obam at the 88th minute but he went past everyone and didn’t sort his feet out at the telling moment.
AS Matelots nearly had the last laugh, if not the most meaningful but a wave of attacks at the end were well dealt with by an experience Fauve Azure side.
Fauve Azure moves up to 26 points in the top half of the table while Matelots remains rooted on the bottom half with 15 points.
