A thrilling encounter at the Limbe Centenary Stadium this Sunday saw Coton Sport FC and Renaissance FC finished on a 1-1 score line with Coton FC still to pick a win in the ongoing MTN Elite 1 championship.
This is the first point for Coton after the side lost their first game 2-0 against Eding Sport. For Renaissance FC, the side followed their win against YAFOOT on Matchday two with this draw against the defending champions. The last time that both sides shared a point came back in 2011 when the game ended 1-1.
It took just 5mins for Coton Sports to rattle the defense of Renaissance FC with a beautiful linked up play between Hassana Mamoudou and Djawal Kaiba fade the latter’s header over the crossbar. The Cottonites with the goal scoring opportunities in the opening minutes but the finishing left much to be desired. The side had lost their first encounter to Eding and they weren’t going to lose this second encounter.
It took the guys from Garoua who have been eliminated from the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup, just 10mins to register their first goal of the new MTN Elite 1 championship through their emblematic captain Kamilou Daouda. He curled a beautiful free kick on edge of the Renaissance penalty box for a 1-0 lead.
Most of the beautiful plays from Coton came in through Hassana Mamoudou whose linked up play brought his colleagues to play. He had several crosses with one finding the head of Djawal Kaiba but his header could only find the hands of goalkeeper Parfait Joel.
Coton Sport will be gifted another chance 30mins into the game with four players busting on goal with Kamilou Daouda with the ball. He ignored his colleagues and decided to chip the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper but the effort went over the crossbar.
Renaissance FC were relegated to just a few chances in the first and at every point where they decided to goalkeeper Anye Derick, the defense was there to shut that effort down. It took the side 36mins to register a save from Anye Derick with Yves Anguissa bringing out a save from the Coton’s shot stopper.
Coton Sport will end the first half on the front foot and almost got the second goal. Francis Joel Alemi burst through the right wing and delivered a cross that met Kamilou Daouda only for his strike to kiss the goal post into the hands of goalkeeper Parfait Joel.
Renaissance FC will approach the second half with a much different attitude as the side went in for the equalizer. The team’s grove was definitely in this second half with Coton Sport finding difficulty than they did in the first half.
And at the 64th minute, Renaissance will register an equalizer through Denis Boris. A beautiful free kick met the head of Boris who made no mistake by scoring the equalizer. The goal will spur the side who kept on the pressure for the winning goal.
Both sides will push for the winning goal but without success as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The draw gives Coton Sport 1 point after two games while Renaissance FC counts four points after three games.
