Cameroon international Karl Toko Ekambi came off the bench to score Villarreal’s winner against Seville Football Club at the 74th minute in a jam-packed Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium on Sunday.

The game was delicately poised at one-all, and it seemed Villarreal was headed for seven games without a victory until the introduction of the 27-year-old broke the jinx for the men of coach Javier Calleja.

Villarreal started the game in a good footing when the most unlikeliest of sources; Raul Albiol gifted them the lead as early as the 13th minute of play.

The scoreline stayed that way for chunks of the game and was only changed a minute after the hour mark with Munir El Haddadi’s effort that hit the inside roof of the net.

Toko Ekambi was then sent in and made instant impact as a ‘supersub,’ using less than 10 minutes to score his team’s second, having been set clean on goal by Manu Trigueros at the 74th minute.

Ekambi’s international teammate Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa was equally neat and tidy in the middle of the park for Villarreal, in 90 minutes.

That winner increases the speedsters tally of the season to six goals in 17 games and moves Villarreal to the 13th spot with 22 points.
