The Vice president of the Normalization committee of the Egyptian Football Association Ali Gamal, has told local media that cancelation of the country’s football leagues for the 2019-2020 season is not amongst options.
Seven weeks after the football body opted to halt it’s competitions owing to the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic, a deadlock still exists with stakeholders brainstorming tirelessly on how to manage the 18-clubs championship with just 18 games played and the other championships.
In the heart of this difficult situation, speculations have eaten the minds of stakeholders while the league management body reflects on the way forward for the interest parties involved.
It against the backdrop of these speculations that the vice president addressed the local media this Wednesday.
“Cancelation of the championships is not amongst our options. Looking at the consequences vis-a-vis sponsors and the economic impacts, we cannot exercise that option. We need three months to complete the fixtures left this season. If we resume in July, we will have all the games played by October. We are suggesting that time be given for clubs to prepare their players. This is necessary when we consider that the length of time the players have not practiced together”;Gamal concluded.
Vice president Gamal’s latest assurance message to lovers of the beautiful game in the country is timely.
His declarations comes three days after Mohamed Fadl, a member of the committee in charge of the leagues hinted on the way forward in an exclusive interview with kingfut.com
“We are thinking about completing the league on certain stadiums and staying in certain hotels. We will give the clubs a period of three weeks to a month in order to prepare for the return of the competition.”Fadl told kingfut.com
With 18 of the of the 34 rounds of matches observed so far, Al Ahly are runaway leaders with a 16 points advantage over Al Mokawloon on the second spot.
