A 2-0 win over Naija Ratels ensured that holders, Rivers Angels picked its first win of the 2022 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after defeat to Bayelsa Queens (2-1) and a goalless draw with Delta Queens.
Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon says the tournament is a marathon race that is still on.
“First of all, I want to thank God that we got the three points. Like I said in the first game, the league is a marathon race. The door is still open. We might be there and we might not be there. That’s football. We are the Champions and in every match, we believe we can win the game as it comes.” Says Edwin Okon while speaking with pressmen.
Chiamaka Okwuchukwu who scored two goals for Rivers Angels against Naja Ratels FC opined that the team still has chances of retaining the title with two more games to go.
She said: “I feel very happy and excited to score two goals which helped my team to a 2-0 win and I pray that I will score more goals in our next game. I still see us having a 100% chance of winning the league because our next matches are games that we must win. I believe in my teammates that they can do it.”
Rivers Angels with four points from three games will next play Nasarawa Amazons on Friday.
