The Super Eagles of Nigeria today marked their return to the city of Lagos with a 3-0 win against the Crocodiles of Lesotho in matchday 6 of the 2022 AFCON qualifiers.
A lovely chip from Kelechi Iheanacho to Victor Osimhen who found the back of the net gave the Super Eagles their first competitive goal on return to Lagos in over 20 years, the lead which they held onto going into the break.
At exactly 5 minutes into the second half, Oghenekaro Etebo made it 2-0 for Nigeria and with 7 minutes left to play, Paul Onachu who has come under serious criticism from fans and analysts in recent times wrap up the win for Nigeria with his second goal in successive games Nigeria having scored the winner against Benin last Saturday.
Super Eagles who had already qualified for the 2022 Nations Cup to be staged in Cameroon last played a competitive in Lagos in January 2001 against Zambia, a Nations Cup qualifier as well and the match ended 1-0 in favor of Nigeria.
With the excitement and atmosphere that ushered the Eagles back to Lagos, and the noise outside the stadium overshadowing the one in the stadium, this match may just be the beginning of matches to be played in the city especially with the agenda of the minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare to refurbish the dilapidated National Stadium in the state.
It finished at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere Lagos, Nigeria 3 Lesotho 0.
