Considered as one of the influential clubs from the Southwest Region of Cameroon not too long ago, 2015 Cameroon Elite Two side Dynamic FC of Buea is setting a bad example these days in the Southwest Regional Championship.
It is unacceptable that in an era where branding and sticking to the ethics of branding is key to the going concern of most clubs around the world, Dynamic of Buea has opted to be an exception.
The Buea-based club displayed an unacceptable outfit in their matchday three fixture in the Southwest regional championship, on Thursday February 27, 2020.
The club appeared in Chelsea FC jerseys carrying “Yokohama” adverts in front while the back of the shirts carried the tag Ossing FC.
Our findings from federation officials have it that, the club had no authorisation to carry any of the advertisement on their jerseys.
This poor attitude from the club has been displayed more than once this season.
It is therefore incumbent on regional and national football authorities in the Southwest Region to call this club to order as their actions have far reaching negative impacts on the growth of football in Cameroon.
It’s common though abnormal to see club officials and players in Cameroon appear in public with jerseys of European clubs, but having a full football club wear the jersey of another in an official game is a step too far, deserving of sanctions.
Recently the goalkeeper of Cameroon Elite One championship side, Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda, featured in a League game as captain of his club dressed in an AC Milan Jersey.
In the first half of the current season, photos of a PWD of Bamenda player in a pre-match warm up with an SSC Napoli jersey flooded the social media.
Similarly,it is not surprising to see club officials appear in the outfits of other clubs on the match-day. These club officials should understand that, for their investment to give them the kind of returns they expect from it, they have to work on these basic but key aspects of the image of their clubs.
This season, coach François Ngoumou led a technical bench of Dragon Yaounde staffs with different outfits;the gaffer dressed in a Cameroon jersey while his assistant wore a Manchester United jersey to coach in a league game in Cameroon.
This reporter thinks it is time for football authorities in Cameroon to stand up and kick-out this unacceptable attitude.
