African football legends, Samuel Eto’o, who doubles as President of the Cameroon Football Federation and Ivorian Star, Didier Drogba, are in Kenya to attend the 9th edition of the Africities Summit in Kisumu scheduled for today to Saturday, May 21st.
This will be officially launched by the President of the nation, Uhuru Kenyatta, under the theme “The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the Implementation of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda 2063.”
Eto’o, former Inter Milan and Barcelona striker, will be attending in his capacity as the president of the Cameroon Football Federation. While Drogba, who is four times English Premier League winner and former Chelsea star, will represent Ivory Coast as the first African player to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
They are both expected to give a talk in relation to football and sports management.
Lupita Nyong’o who is brand ambassador for the 9th Africities event will be part of the other big sport dignitaries to attend the event as well Six other head of States.
For the first time ever, an intermediary city, Kumasi in Kenya, will host the 9th Edition of Africities Summit, from the 17th to the 21st of May 2022
This comes at a time when Kenya is suspended by FIFA from all her activities due to government interference and the said country is drawn in Pool C of the 2023 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers alongside Cameroon, Borundi and …
The country still remains a regular in sports both continentally and the world. Kenyan athletes do well in global championships.
For the record, Africities is a Pan Africa conference that is convened by the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa and brings together the leadership of cities and sub national governments and their associations for the advancement of decentralization and local governance aimed at improving the living standards of the citizens.
This has been since 1998 and the first meeting was held in Abijan, Ivory Coast. It is done every three years.
