DR. Congo’s failure to qualify for the African Cup of Nations come 2022 in Cameroon, has left the country seeking other routes to Cameroon.
The Central African are questioning the eligibility Gabon’s Guelo Kanga who allegedly has irregularities despite being in the Gabonese national selection for over five years.
Born 1 September 1990, Guelo Kanga is a Gabonese professional footballer, an attacking midfielder for Serbian Red Star Belgrade and a member of the Gabonese squad that contested the 2017 Nations Cup on home soil.
For the first time since 2017 DR.Congo has failed to qualify for the AFCON as Gabon finished one point ahead of them in Group D, with The Gambia topping the table.
Gabon may likely lose her qualification if DR.Congo’s eligibility appeal against Guelo is granted, as Gabon will be stripped off all ten points
she earned from this Nations Cup qualifying campaign.
Thereby moving to the bottom of Group D and pushing DR.Congo to the top to qualify alongside The Gambia and Angola.
Fecofa president Constant Omari recently told BBC his federation was not prepared to talk about the case as it awaits a decision on the matter.
According to CAF, it is not aware of any official protest being made by Fecofa.
What is the future of Gabon come 2022 in Cameroon? Is the question still to b answered.
It is worth noting that, kanga has participated in all six games for Gabon in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, including both games against DR.Congo where Gabon won four points.
