2019-2020 Ivorian League top scorer Doumbia Junior Aboubakar has completed a switch to Finnish second tier side Kokkollan Palloveikot on a one-year-deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old striker winger left SOA on the back of a brilliant 2019-2020 season which saw him score 10 league goals cutting in from the flanks.
The ex-Ivory Coast Under-20 international is a part of the country’s intermediate national selection.
Many are those who consider him as the next star from the country’s ever productive national championship.
Speaking just after completing the switch this week, Doumbia said it was a stepping stone as he aims to use the Finnish championship as a springboard.
“I received several proposals outside and in Ivory Coast where Asec was after me. If I opted for this team, it is because they have been more convincing in sporting terms as well as in salary terms. I hear people say that I deserve better. Certainly, but I consider this choice as a springboard. That is why I signed a short-term contract. This club has been following me for a very long time,” Doumbia stated
The Attecoube native will link up with the rest of his new team mates in June.
Ivorian footballers are noted for leaving the domestic championship in the country for more mediatized championships in Europe.
