The City Mayor for the Douala City Council has handed over the sum 40 Million FCFA to Elite football clubs based in Douala in the Littoral region.
The Mayor, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine distributed the sum to some five Elite outfits in the city as part of end of year celebrations and assistance to clubs.
According to Zang Zang Charles Elie, Adviser to the City Mayor, the politician handed 10 Million FCFA each to third tie side, Oryx and Caiman both of Douala.
The sum of 10M was also given to Elite Two outfit, Leopard still of Douala.
Meanwhile, Elite One side Les Astres of Douala bagged home 4M while Union Sportif of Douala now in Cameroon’s second tier football championship, was handed the sum of 15 Million FCFA.
The financial assistance from Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, is expected to help boast the performances of the five outfits the kind gesture coming at a time when Elite clubs in the country are going through extreme financial hardship compounded by the novel Coronavirus pandemic.
All the five clubs benefiting from the kind act are historic clubs in Cameroon with the five counting a joint 15 titles in Cameroon’s Elite One football championship.
Oryx which won the inaugural title at the end of the 1960-1961 season, is leading the park alongside African giants Union of Douala with 5 titles each.
Caiman has won the title on three occasions while Leopard of Douala came out winners in two occasions.
