48-year-old Alain Djeumfa has sailed through troubled waters over his time with the indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon. The gaffer can comfortably say, he has answered his critics on numerous occasions through the performance of his Team. However, Alain Djeumfa has an appointment with history. Should the gaffer go pass Zambia on aggregate, he will become just the second coach to take Cameroon to the Olympic games following the success the great Enow Ngachu in 2012.
Ahead of the game, the gaffer must have selection headache giving the multiple choice especially in a forward line with three world cup participants in reliable Henriette Michel Akaba Edoa, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene, Nchout Njoya Ajara and Kameni Alice Flora.
Between the sticks, Ange Bawou has definitely won the hearts of many in the fourth qualifying game against the Ivory Coast. With Annette Ngo out of the squad, she is expected to start. Estelle Laura Johnson in that center half position has played every game unerringly since her arrival, and she might partner with Awono Marie while Meffoumetou Falone and Collette Ndzana can own the full back positions as Ejangue Siliki is just returning from injury.
In the midfield, coach Alain has mostly utilised Bengono Catherine who is versatile and could switch if need be, alongside Ngock Yango, Omboudou Brigitte and Meyong Menene are options.
The complexity now hangs in the forward position. Nchout Ajara and captain Aboudi Onguene should definitely start but who accompanies them becomes an issue. It is difficult to see Alain Djeumfa entrusting huge responsibility on Ngo Batoum or Cameroon Women’s league current highest goal scorer, Flora Kameni Alice is a serious candidate for a place in the XI going by her league form. The gaffer from all indications might go for a 4-4-2 or the 4-3-3 formation that would see just Aboudi and Ajara start up top or either Akaba or Kameni join the above mentioned duo.
