The reigning champions of Cameroon’s league one football championship, PWD Bamenda have returned to winning ways with their match day 7 triumph over West regional outfit, Djiko FC of Bandjoun.
The Abakwa Boys dispatched Djiko FC 2-1 at the Fotso Victor Stadium in Bandjoun on Saturday April 17 to reactivate the winning machinery that has recently abandoned the outfit in the weeks past.
Two goals from forwards Lerger Tchaoua and John Paul Nzo Ngong at the 38th and 90th minutes respectively ensured the side led by Coach David Pagou gathered all available points to boast their chances of dreaming of retaining the league title they clinched dramatically last season.
Saturday’s win appeared merger per the goal machine, but the outfits never-say-die mentality in the match which saw the squad netting a 90th minute winning goal, rekindled hope in the squad and the now ever exciting and demanding fan base.
The victory see the Abakwa Boys end a 4 match winless run that saw the outfit picking 4 disappointing draws against the likes of Dragon of Yaounde and Bamboutos of Mbouda with the team’s lone win of the season until Saturday’s game being a 1 nil triumph over newly promoted and struggling YAFOOT FC during the opening match of the current championship.
The outfit moves from 7th position in group A with 7points to seating 5th with 10points. They tally 4 points short of group leaders AS Fortuna and are a point away from tied ‘technical second spot’ led by Stade Renard of Melong who hold 11points, same points with Fovu of Baham and Bamboutos of Mbouda.
PWD Bamenda will face Fovu of Baham in their next outing in a game described by critics as a must win for David Pagou and lads in a bid to keep their title retaining lights sparklingly bright.
A win over the West regional outfit at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium could see PWD Bamenda move up as joint group toppers depending on results recorded by in-form Fortuna. The game will be one of the biggest clash for the Bamenda outfit this month as they face a Fovu of Baham that has only lost once this season and have gathered three wins in their last 6 matches.
