Ivorian football legend, Didier Drogba has seen his hopes of becoming the next President of the Ivorian Football Federation receive a boost after the Referee Association gave him the required endorsement this Tuesday.
The presidential hopeful, suffered a major blow last July 14 when he failed to secure the necessary backing from the footballers Union who have thrown their support to Idriss Diallo, one of the two other candidates.
Before obtaining the validation from the Referee Association, the Chelsea legend was yet to win the authorization from any of the five special interest groups necessary to see his ambitions attained.
The 42-year-old retired professional footballer is one of the three candidates for the September elections.
Didier Drogba helped Ivory Coast finish runners-up at the 2006 and 2012 Nations Cup. He’s currently the country’s all-time top scorer with 65 goals.
The two times African Footballer of the year in 2006 and 2009 has won several trophies in his successful career and has several individual accolades to his name.
He won four Premier League titles with Chelsea and helped the club clinch the UEFA Champions League in 2012.
