Greece-based Indomitable Lions of Cameroon goalkeeper Devis Epassy of OFI Crete played a telling role as his side picked up a win at home to Apollon Smyrni this last Sunday in an exciting Greek Super League fixture whose results amounted to qualification for the title play-offs.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Silver medalist prevented the visitors from scoring in a game OFI dominated from start to finish.
Second-half goals from Praxitelis Vouros and Luiz Phellype in the 64th and 71st minutes respectively was enough to seal a ninth win in 26 games this season.
Epassy made a number of great intervention on the night and helped his side bag home the three points.
The win takes Epassy’s returns this season to seven clean sheets in 16 Greek Super League games with just 19 goals conceded in that time.
The keeper who was deputy to Andre Onana in Cameroon’s running to a third place finish at the just-ended AFCON is enjoying the rare privilege of game time and good form in his debut campaign at the club, having made the starting XI in 69% of the team’s matches and saved 50% of penalties faced.
The Cameroon international with five cap for the Indomitable Lions has helped OFI Crete to the sixth spot in the present Greek top-flight Championship standings with 37 points from 26 games in the championship.
Epassy and his Crete have qualified for the 10-game title play-offs alongside Kunde Malong’s Olympiakos who finish top of the first phase of the championship.
29-year old Epassy is certain to start on goal during the play-offs.
