Indomitable lions head coach, Clarence Seedorf has insisted that veteran goalkeeper, Idriss Carlos Kameni brings so much value into the team, despite the fact that he is not playing at club level. Seedorf was speaking during a press conference this Monday March 18, 2019, at the Mont Febe Hotel, ahead of the lions crucial AFCON qualifier against Comoros in Yaoundé on Saturday.
Cameroon will face the Coelacantes in a decisive game in Group B, with both sides having the possibility of making it to the final phase of tournament scheduled for Egypt. Lions head coach had summoned 23 players for the game, with the presence of Idriss Carlos Kameni being a subject of debates in many Media houses in Cameroon. The Olympic gold medalist has gone over 12 months without playing for his Turkish club Fenerbache, but was a surprise inclusion in a goalkeeping compartment that have the likes of UEFA champions league Quarter finalist, Andre Onana and 2017 AFCON hero, Fabrice Ondoa.
During a press conference granted to the media in the nations capital, Yaoundé on Monday morning, Seedorf insisted that Carlos Kameni is one of the main leaders and most experienced within the lions den, and brings so much value. He also stressed that the doors have not been closed for other Cameroonian goalkeepers. The Coach was also asked about the non selection of home based players, but he said “with all the respect for the players who play in Cameroon, I think they are still far away from playing international football yet. But this doesnt mean that we are not planning to start involving them. We did in the first training camps with the likes of Akono. This moment we cannot do anymore experiments because now we have an official qualifying match. But I appreciate the fact that there are talents here. Cameroon is full of raw talents, but they need experience.”
Clarence Seedorf also confirmed that Jean Armel Kana Biyik suffered an injury while playing for his Turkish club Kayserispor and will be replaced by Real Betis midfielder, Wilfrid Kaptoum. This comes just after Stephane Bahoken was replaced by Olivier Boumal, after the Angers forward was injured in his sides zero all draw against Amiens, in the French league 1.
Cameroon currently sits second in their group, with 8 points, two shy of leaders Morocco and 3 more than Comoros. A draw will be enough to see the defending champions through.
