French Ligue 1 outfit Rennes have made the signing of 25-year-old Gabonese international offensive midfielder Denis Bouanga from Saint-Etienne, a summer transfer priority.
According to reports from L’Equipe, Rennes are preparing a bid to secure the services of the former Nîmes playmaker, this summer.
It’s not the first time Rennes have manifested an interest in Bouanga. Last summer they attempted to sign him but failed and the Gabonese rather joint Saint-Etienne.
With the current Coronavirus pandemic taking a huge toll on the finances of most clubs, Rennes’ new President Nicolas Holveck will want to capitalize on the situation and a make an initial €6 million bid for the Gabonese.
They are hoping to secure the player’s services for not more than €10 million.
However, it might not just be a matter of money as the player and Rennes coach Julien Stéphan did not have a very good meeting last year.
Also, Bouanga is on the wishlists of Spanish and English clubs which might present more interesting challenges for the former Lorient playmaker.
This season, he scored 10 league goals in 26 games for Saint-Etienne.
The native of Le Mans’ contract with Saint-Etienne runs till June 2023.
