Cape Verde showed great team spirit against Hungary in their first ever match of the IHF Men’s World Championship.
With eleven players in the squad due to the coronavirus and without coach Jose Thomas, the Island nation went into the game a depleted side, but with strong team spirit.
Though started with a yellow card and a two minutes suspension and consequently going down 5:0 in the first phase of the game, the team got themselves back to score 4-5.
However, another suspension affected the COSAFA region team and Hungary led with a five point advantage.
At half time it was Hungary 19 and Cape Verde 14.
The European heavyweights continued to exploit the frailties of the African side to increase the margin, but Cape Verde didn’t go down without a fight. It ends 34-26.
Cape Verde go against Germany in their next game.
