Italian Serie A club, Napoli’s President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has indirectly rejected African footballers from his Club.
“No more words about African Players! I love them, but either they sign something confirming they’ll back out of playing the Africa Cup of Nations, or otherwise… between that tournament, the World Cup qualifiers in South America, these players are never available!
“We are the fools who pay salaries only to send them all over the world playing for others.”he voiced out.
This verdict comes after Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly left Napoli for Chelsea after eight years of stay in the club and in within this period of time of time, the defender made four AFCON participation with the Teranga Lions of Senegal.
Napoli had three very instrumental players of the team out of action during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Zambo Anguissa defended his country Cameroon, Defense man Kalidou Koulibaly was in Action for Senegal. while Victor Osimhen was out due to an injury.
Funny enough, Napoli still has about three African Players in the persons of Cameroonian midfielder, Zambo Anguissa, Nigerian Striker, Victor Osimhen and Karim Zedadka of Algeria.
The 26-year-old Indomitable Lions of Cameroon midfielder, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, was on Loan at Napoli for the whole of last season where he secured a third place finish in the Serie A.
He signed a permanent deal to stay at Napoli from Fulham after an impressive performance with the club.
This decision from SSC Napoli’s President now puts Zambo Anguissa and African brothers at the club on a “hot seat” as they have to choose between their national teams or the Club during AFCON periods.
