South Africa Football Association (SAFA) President, Dr. Danny Jordaan during the reception for Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Tuesday said the men’s and Women’s football teams will be paid the same allowance henceforth.
Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Saturday edged host, Morocco 2-1 to clinch the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2022) for the first time in the country’s history.
“Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana will be paid the same from now on.” Says Dr. Danny Jordaan.
The African Champions on Tuesday were welcomed heroically with major financial announcements to motivate the players.
Banyana Banyana will share R23 million as follows:
R5.8 million – Department of Sports
R9.2 million – SAFA
R8.4 million – CAF winners
South Africa won all six games to clinch WAFCON 2022 title in an unbeaten fashion, scoring ten goals and conceding three in the process.
This Mzansi’s first continental victory since Bafana Bafana won the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1996 at home. 12 of the 26 Banyana Banyana players were not yet born.
