Alfred Agbor Agbor was the saviour for his Continental FA side as they had to come from a goal down to draw against the Catholic University SA 1-1. The game counted for one of the matchday three matches played at the BGS School Field this Sunday, March 14.
Continental FA went into this game after defeating the University of Buea FC on matchday two by 1-0. For the Catholic University SA, they were exempted from matchday two.
Ikose Njuma Joel got his side to the perfect start of the game as he scored the first goal for CUSA at the 31mins. CUSA earlier in the game had been pecked back into their box by a strong Continental FA side.
Continental FA’s first meaningful chance in the game came from Takor Takor who had a brilliant strike at the 35mins but his effort was punched by goalkeeper Oku Isaac.
This is the first competitive game for the Catholic University SA in this championship after not playing matchday one against Dynamic and being exempted from matchday two. In the first game, CUSA was present but Dynamic was absent due to license issues.
Continental FA began the second half on the front foot with chances to get an equalizer. In a tactical substitution Coach, Eyongeta Paul brought in Alfred Agbor. Alfred Agbor Agbor will go on to score the equalizer for Continental FA at the 58mins with a fine headed goal.
Dieudonne Youni had a chance to give his Continental side the lead with a powerful shot that was equally saved by goalkeeper Isaac. Dieudonne Youni was excellent in his side’s last encounter against the University of Buea FC
Agbor then had a chance to score his brace but his strike went just wide off the post. Dieudonne Youni then had a chance in the final minutes of the game but his shot was too weak to trouble goalkeeper Isaac.
With the chances drying up for both sides the game ended 1-1 between the two sides, a result that will keep the hopes alive of both sides in reaching the mini interpool.
It should be noted that the Catholic University SA will be in action during matchday four. The team has a crunch encounter against Buea United FC. For Continental FA they are scheduled to face Dynamic, while the University of Buea FC is exempted. However, the game Continental FA against Dynamic according to reports will not be played as Dynamic FC may have forfeited the tournament this year.
Buea United currently leads Pool B with six points. They are followed by Continental FA with four points and CUSA in the third position with four points equally. The University of Buea is last on the log with three points.
